Our story with the Lake

I remember when we first bought our home on Houston County Lake, we would leave from our home in Spring Texas outside of Houston and rush up here, sometimes taking the kids out of school a little early. We would arrive and get the kids settled in the house, grab the rods and head down to the dock where we would fish until the wee hours of the morning. Most nights during the Crappie Spawn we would fill our cooler and wake the next morning to the pleasurable chore of cleaning a cooler full of fish. The next day we would do the usual yard work, repairs and a few projects to make the home more comfortable then rush back down and fish for as long as we could stay awake. Sometimes the fishing was so good the kids would actually join us!

Back in those days we were called weekenders by the full timers, we were those city people that came out, made a bunch of noise and then fled as quickly as we showed leaving nothing but quiet in our absence. Note: Some people get touchy about being called weekenders but it never bothered us, after all, they were right (my apologies for offending anyone).

Back then we were just learning what life on the lake was all about. We fell in love with the lake and dreaded the thought of going back to the big city. We found ourselves leaving later and later and getting depressed at the thought of leaving. Something had to be done. I found myself scheming of ways to make it possible to live here and abandon the concrete jungle once and for all. Surely with the technical advances I could remotely run my construction business? After all, once or twice a week in Houston and the other 5-6 days here was bearable. All I had to do was convince the wife, a formidable task I might add. We came to an agreement, the terms of which shall never be known by anyone.

We finally decided to give it a shot. It wasn't without problems but it sure made life a lot better. To make a long story short(er)that was almost 16 years ago. Now that I have you entranced and I myself am running out of time I will continue this later. Remind me to address the fishing situation.
