If you want to experience life away from civilization, Houston County Lake is the place to explore. Bring a kayak, canoe or boat of your choice and head to the east side of the lake. There is a launch over by the pump station that will cut paddling time significantly.You can view this map to the right. The launch is dirt as are the roads. It's at the end of C.R. 2125 where it runs into the lake.
Once you traverse the lake to the opposite side you will notice the lack of development. If you head further to the right (east) you will enter the area where the creek feeds the lake. It is not an area visited often and we suggest properly preparing yourselves. You will also notice the two islands Paradise Island and Pine Island, neither are inhabited, with the exception of deer and wildlife.You can get off the boat and walk the islands, You may want to bring bug spray, suntan lotion and plenty of water. Of course, there's easier exploring options.
